I am going to buy a car hauler to haul my truck to the track which is about 1.5 hours away. Who makes a good trailer? My truck is a long bed 1970 F-100. It weighs about 4,000 lbs. What size trailer should I get. I will not be getting a gooseneck. This will be a ball hitch type. Preferably one with a dove tail. My buddy said he likes his "big tex" trailer. I am not experienced with car haulers. I want one with a brake on it. I am also not looking to spend $4000. Something cheap but not unreliable will be what I need. I am probably going to get a new one though. Thanks.
Thanks man! Easy on the caps there man I can hear you loud and clear. I'll check them out. I am from Indiana so that is a definite possibility. I am in Korea right now so it isn't bedtime yet.
I've had good experience with Pace American, Wells Cargo, and Haulmark trailers, just to throw some more names out there for you. I'm guessing you are looking for an enclosed trailer?
I think most of those are enclosed, so they probably won't work for you. My friend has a good race car trailer, but I have no idea where it came from. I'll check on that if I can get a chance.
Considering the weight of the load you want to haul, look for a trailer with a GVWR of either 6000 or 7000. The trailer itself will weigh around 2000. I would go with 7000 if it didn't cost too much extra. Make sure it has electric brakes. BTW, I've seen some of the Big Tex trailers on the road and they look pretty nice.
big tex is a great brand. I have an older big tex landscape trailer
2 8lug axles, brakes on one. 16x6.5' rated at 12000# 2 5/16 ball
great trailer
obtw, i bought it used for 750
I bought a PJ trailer a year ago and I love it. Has brakes(with a break away kit), a bulldog coupler, fold-away jack, and aluminum treadplate fenders that are removeable so you can open car doors with the car still on the trailer. All the lights are recessed so you wont bust them off, the wiring is custom made for the trailer(no splices anywhere), and the frame crossmembers are channel iron, not angle iron. It is 18 ft overall- 16 ft with a 2 foot dovetail. 7700 lb rating and it cost me $1850. I looked for about a year and I thought this was the best deal around here. Whenever you get back to **** Knoster you're welcome to come over and look at it, and see what you think.
See ya,
Mark
