intermittent acceleration issues in 2001 7.3 Excursion
ICP is a sensor that measures pressure in the high pressure oil system which fires the injectors.
IPR is a solenoid that controls the pressure based on feedback from the ICP.
Disconnecting the ICP will result in the truck running off default values. If it runs ok with ICP disconnected then typically we would lean towards a problem with this sensor.
You can’t run with the IPR disconnected (someone correct me if I’m wrong here). It doesn’t build pressure without having voltage input.
Issues with the wiring to either of these could result in strange things happening even after the ICP or IPR itself was replaced. Has anyone checked the wiring yet? Someone recommended it long ago but I’m not sure if it’s been completed.
Have you or the shop checked actual fuel pressure while driving down the road?
As someone mentioned above, this could be related to a fuel pressure issue. The PCM is blind to the fuel pressure values and may not throw a code for it. Various things could cause fuel pressure issues so a confirmation would be good.
