Dropped bolt into motor

So I was in the process of doing a turbo swap to the borg warner sxe366 and the freeze plug that plugs the old mechanical fuel pump in the valley had to be removed well needless to say, it as well as the safety bolt I had attached to it fell into the motor, seperatly. I'm already getting the motor ready to be pulled but what are the odds that they made it to the oil pan or if they didn't any way to make them fall out?

Either way you need to get them out. If you are doing a rebuild anyway get them then.

Manually roll it in both directions. If it's in the pan. I don't think it's a huge issue.

BTW, did it go into the freeze plug hole or the lube side?

It's the hole where the obs mechanical fuel pump used to be dead center in the valley, I can see the crankshaft if I look inside the hole

I am not sure what the bolt and such are made of, but if they are ferrous then could you try putting one of those magnetic retrieval tools in there to see if you can fish them out? I would put plastic wrap or something over the end of the magnet first though, just in case there are any metal particles that may be down there, helps with cleaning up the tool afterwards.

Maybe you can find it in there with a scope.

I've definitely thought about the scope but the freeze plug ford put in there is quarter size so I can't snag it out but the self tapper I had as my safety might come out with a magnet

I'm thinkin your good to go. If you can eyeball the crank thru the port, that baby is deep sixed. I would do the rotation method after the below steps anyway.

Two options, go fishing thru your drop in point........if it when in that way it will come out that way..Pull your dipstick tube and R@R your seal anyway (probably due) Fish that pond, No catch?.....

Pull your pan drain and stir around the bottom and see if you can sweep it into one of your fishing holes. Not sure if the dip plug is of smaller diameter.

I'm thinking if you do "Feel" it on the bottom of the pan, I can't imagine that there will be a clearance problem with the journals and it's too heavy to get moved around unless the rig is turned 180. The oil pickup screen is tighter than a preachers daughters change purse, so no worries there.

Also the plug won't come out the way it went in, I had a 220 pound guy standing in top of my block pulling it up and that bitch came up a **** hair at most but the dipstick option sounds promising

I just did the same thing. Did you ever get yours out?

So far got the starter off and the oil dip stick. Needed some r and r anyway as the other guy said. The dip stick is always leaking on these things. Went out and bought a boroscope to check everything out. I believe I saw it in the oil pan but no matter what cant get it /: motor spins freely and I believe it should be ok for a little while tell I replace pan. I saw another guy said the pickup is super tight so not to worry. Thankyou in advance.

If you know where it's at in the oil pan stock/glue a big magnet to it in that area to keep it put if your worried about it.

I went fishing for like 4 hours. Boroscope came in clutch and like you suggested a big *** magnet. Of course now I’m having to shave down my injector hold down brackets due to arp head studs /: .close to the finish line though.
