This is my first post here. I know you people can help me and I really need your help. Im 68 and a gearhead. But I'm certainly not what I used to be. I have a 94 F-250 2WD with a 5.8 L motor. I call her 'Big Red'. She's been sitting in the AZ heat for at least 8 years without being started. Long story. Ran fine last time I fired her up. Moved out here into the vacation home permanently, where she's been sitting, about a year ago....alone. Tried to start her but no fuel pump noise. I dropped one of the tanks and put a new fuel pump in. Still no start but I here the new pump priming. The gas I got out of the tank was black....no kidding, black. Made me sick as a dog. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator....she's trying to start but no go. She fires up on sure start. So now I have the Plenum off changing out the fuel injectors. I just want to put the exact same fuel injectors in but for the life of me I can't find a good replacement part. Original part number is F2TE-A3A. I'm not spending $3000 for fuel injectors. I don't want re-manufactured or Chinese parts. Just getting to the fuel rails was a chore. Can anyone tell me where I can get a good replacement set of injectors without breaking the bank. I've worked on cars my whole life and I love to do it. I used to have a full shop. Right now I'm crawling around on the ground with just the jack that came with the vehicle, a small craftsman tool box, hammer, screwdriver and a crescent wrench. LOL! In a couple of weeks it will be too hot here to work on anything outside. Just want to get her back together. Bought her new in '94 special order. She's a great truck. There's about 90,000 miles on her.
Thank you in advance for any advice.
You can send them off for cleaning and flow testing, generally for $20-25/injector. If you ohm them and they ohm good, I bet they could be revived. I sent mine to injector rehab yesterday but there’s plenty of offerings out there on the internet.
The injector likely has a 0280xxx number on one side of the electrical socket. That’s a Bosch number and is how you can identify the correct replacement injector.
Not sure what injectors are in your truck but my 92 F 250 5.8 I replaced with a 97 explorer v8 5.0 motor, the injectors that are a four spray nozzle. What was in the truck was the OEM injector that was a one spray. More power and better fuel economy, my truck feels totally different with the new injectors. I got remans form advance auto for about $300 total
Below is a link to a YouTube video that gave me the idea
That's the exact video I used to get to the fuel injectors. Really a well done video. Of course due to the fact it's originally a California Truck it is covered in smog paraphernalia. It made it pretty difficult. The center Torx head bolt in the plenum was not a problem. The passenger side bolt up against the firewall was a totally blind removal. It was buried under smog hoses and hard plumbing. Thank you very much for the fuel injector information. I only want to do this once.
Wow, I haven't seen Jetronic injectors in a while. My experience with those, long ago, was they were good injectors. I ordered the Accel injectors yesterday. We shall see how they work out. I'll post back when I get her running. THANK YOU ALL for your input. Highly appreciated!
Could you possibly soak them in an ultrasonic cleaner/bath? I don’t know if that would kill the electrical side of the injector. But I mean they’re already dead, Can’t get any more dead.
Really good point. I know when they re-manufacture or clean these injectors they have to meet OEM requirements. I should trust that. But I don't how badly the original plunger and seats are damaged from being soaked in bad gas for so long. These are the original injectors from 1994. I believe they have done their job and a job well done. Just was looking for a fresh set that I could install and get another 90,000 miles out of. I only want to do this once and be done with it. I won't be around when she hits 180,000 miles. The Plenum removal was a pain so I don't want to do it again. I ended up ordering a set of Accel injectors off the Holley website for $400. That's a reasonable price for new injectors. Heck I was quoted almost $2900 for new injectors down at O'Rieley's a couple of days ago. Seriously? C'mon man. We will see how the Accel injectors work. I will post the results. I sincerely appreciate people like you that have taken the time to reply to this post. Thank you!
I noticed a huge difference years ago when I replaced the injectors on my previous 95 with Ford Racing 19# ones that were the same style as original. The truck also would flood out after short drives since they were dirty and leaked. I am about to replace the original injectors on my 94 with a set of refurbished ones. I am saving those links to the new ones from LMR. I'm not still sure how much better the slim Type III ones really are, but they've always been claimed to be superior. I wonder which ones are more durable or last longer.
