Hey guys. I just bought a 97 f450 cab and chassis, 200k, 5spd, 2wd. I have a couple of things I'm working out. She runs pretty smooth but blows some white smoke at cold start and at 60 mph she's running 2,500 rpm. I'd like to run lower. Is the smoke normal? A Ford mechanic told me it is. None of the climate controls or radio power up. I'm going to dig into the fuses first. The seat is trashed. What is the most comfortable seat to swap in, that bolts up?
Welcome, there are some very knowledgeable guys on this forum. The white smoke issue could be the glow plugs being bad. I believe you can ohm test them to verify they still work. White smoke is unburnt fuel. But confirm with the more informed members.
F450 has lower gears to haul big loads with 4.30 or 4.88 gears, re gearing that rear is expensive
all diesels blow white mist aka smoke on start up
water vapour and fuel at 800 PSI does weird things when you release the pressure fast
if it dont clear up in a few minutes then there might be an issue.
Your suspension is more stiff too than the F250 and F350, You need a spring loaded seat.
