Another smoke story!

Hey

Sorry about this question as I have noted there has been many similar questions asked regarding smoke, but I would like clearification regarding my issue.

Truck, 1984 F250 crew cab, 6.9L, auto, 4x4. 100000 miles, Has had regular servicing. Truck starts cold within 5-10 seconds and first go when hot. Truck runs very well. Not sure about power as I have nothing to compare it to.

Smoke issue: When started from cold, it puffs out black smoke, which I believe is normal, but then a fear bit of white/blue? smoke. This only lasts for 5-10 seconds. Under load there is a trail of mainly white/blue smoke (no black). When I mean a trail of smoke, I mean enough to notice the "haze" behind me, not to excessive.

Is this something to be concerned about? If yes, what could it be. Whats the IP unit?

Cheers
Gary

Have you been to the pre-powerstroke forum on this site? I bet they could help you. The IP is the injection pump. It's the round thing right in the middle top of the engine with all the metal fuel lines going to it.

Are you losing any noticeable amount of coolant?

Dave F. is correct above. The guys in the IDI forum are an excellent bunch of guys. I have learned tons about my 6.9 from them.
