Oh no I am open to every thing , I commented on the busiest time -as grass cutting and it has a 70 gallon transfer tank for unleaded fuel . I cut two properties and that truck houses all my tools fuel etc .Lol ,all winter long , with tons of time , it does not happen then .If he does chime in I am open to it all -less work is Great.I just like to have a permanent fix . Actually though if cut n slid in between I could tack it if need be.TR

Yeah, if you cut out the skinny section on the left but leave the bolt holes and get a good tight fastener in that first hole next to the cut, the portion extending towards the master won't be seeing a big reduction in stiffness. I see that the plate is 11 ga. So a gap has to be cut out. One cut is probably not going to be easy spread but I'd look it over to see when you get your plate. You can always fab up a bridge across the gap bolt to bolt and JB weld it and bolt it down. I think you'll have enough thread to reach. By the way when replacing the master through the plate there was barely enough thread length on the master to grab a few threads. That's where a helper would be nice. I had to cut a 2x4 to length and then drive a wedge to force the master up against the firewall before going under the dash to get the nuts on. I was able to get the nut on fully threaded...barely.

I saw your comment! Yes this guy did it exactly right IMHO. That post should be copied to the stickies as a must read on the firewall reinforcement subject.

Correct, after initially experiencing this problem ,that is the first place I looked .I am no mechanic but mechanically inclined ,just a parts changer who listens to all advice. I have seen many members over the past 20 + years who think they all the know it all , not listening to advice and spending huge amounts of $$&$ for simple problems .The key -education is everything and I have learned tons and now read instructions lol. Hard head makes a tough duff We never start learning !! Experience is important !TR

Flex plate installed , the worst of this job was fighting the cowl with one person. As J savage stated remove the motor to get to the top bolts. My year (1985)the cowl has to be removed to remove motor,so I removed the cowl partially .Antenna coax broke as I resoldered that and my washer squirter separated .Super glued that back together for a fast fix (40 year old part)Before drilling the bolts I used temporary bolts were the master cylinder went and tighten them down good .The 90degree bit/tool came in handy for this job .Also I added gasket maker under the cowl hardware- and around the top of bolts for a no leak into cab .Still waiting on my new master cylinder/ hose/ slave cylinder to finish this Pita project .I did not see any cracks but perhaps at the seams where caulk is it ,may be separating .REMOVING the seat Helped !Thanks to Big Blue 2 For the important info - Time saver.
