Towing in town whether I manually shift or just put it in D my trans is getting hot. I already have a aftermarket cooler. Going 35mph or less. I hit 230°F. It’s 50°F out too. 14k lbs One of my 3 loads 🥵
should I get a fan on my cooler or what’s the secret for stop and go traffic? What’s the secret when it’s 95°F out too 😱
I have the trucool 40k unit. Its worked great for me.
I want to try it. Online it says not intended for use below 32°F though. Here in northern Idaho it was -0 to -10 for like a week this year. So that probably won’t work. Dang.
Does your ATF go to the radiator cooler and then to the aux cooler?
Is the aftermarket cooler a tube and fin or stack plate? A tube and fin has one tube that snakes back and forth with fins connecting them. A stacked plate has stacked flattened tubes that go from one side to the other.

I have the 32 row 6.0 cooler and never have a problem with heat even in stop and go traffic. My problem is 'heat soak' with radiator, ac condensor, trans cooler all up front causing my ac cooling in traffic to get really bad. New compressor, evaporator cleaned and fan cleaned. I have to get rolling for cool air. If this isn't true with most of you guys I would like to know your secret, I also have the cut off valve to stop flow to heater.
I have a cooler for a SD V8 or V10 CRS, and it's does great, 15k towing in city traffic and temps just hover over 200°
and like Glenn AC sucks in city traffic.
My truck has a bigger than stock transmission cooler on it already but it’s only 7” x 11, I haven’t had time to take a picture anyway it does fine when I’m moving back as soon as I start to go in to stop and go traffic it gets hot
7x11 is on the size of a piece of paper. The bigger coolers give more surface area for the displaced of heat and keeping the trans cool. Like Mark is noting. The style of cooler is also important. Take a look at the 6.0 for a comparison in size.
