Do the compression test. Since it overheated

If the IP is similar to the 6.9, then there is a possibility of leakage of oil in to the engine at the shaft seal.

Ok, I got a brand new starter and did and diy refubrish on the battery’s. Then I pulled the fuel filter and filled it with diesel clean and some diesel. It cranked over really fast and started quickly. I had it at about half throttle and it ran pretty smooth at around 2k rpm’s. Then I let off the gas and it instantly died. I got it to start again and it started pretty fast but began to missfire again. The whole engine started to shake pretty bad so I didn’t run it long but it sounded like just a one cylinder dead miss. Could bad compression cause a dead miss, or does it sound like more of a fuel problem? Also is there a easier way then a compression test to see if it is a fuel issue or a compression issue? I definitely will do a compression test if I have to but they aren’t cheap so if there is another way that is cheaper or easier I want to try that first.

You can just listen to the engine while it's cranking to see if you can hear the starter speed up at a certain point in the rotation.
post a video of the engine cranking and we can probably tell you if the compression is healthy.

HF has a compression tester kit for a very reasonable price. It pays for itself if you get one use out of it.

"Has many adaptors including for Cummins B 5.9 12 and 24 valve, and ford powerstroke.VERIFIED BUYER"

Ok, I attached a video of it cranking, please let me know what you think. It's not just about the cost to get the compression tester but also the amount of time it takes to actually do the test.

If your glow plugs are working, it should be enough rpm to start. But there does seem to be a cyclical "lope" avery other second that indicates you need new batteries.
[Edit: Your batteries are working fine, "IF" your glow plugs are operating and your compression is ok.]

sounds to me like you either have dead batteries, or a bad starter.
here are examples of a bad starter at 70 degrees, and a good starter at 40 degrees.
bad starter:

and this is a new starter:

My battery’s are at 600+ and 800+ cca. I probably do need new ones but I don’t want to invest more before I know that the engine will run right. I think I’m going to just replace the injectors and see if that fixes it, unless someone knows a shop near Olympia wa that will rebuild them for me. Is there a certain brand of injectors I should get?

you have corroded wiring, bad starter or weak batteries

remove negs on batts first
take off all the battery and starter wires and clean the ends shiny and bolt back up
dont forget the block and frame grounds

I notice you have 2 Batteries with two different cranking Amps, 600 & 800.
They should be matched by same cranking amps (800), and same age.
Buying injectors from Auto Supply, Amazon, E-Bay etc... can be a crap shoot
as to quality, balanced etc...

There are 3 recommended vendors talked over and over on the forums as the
best to buy from. May be a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I can`t get his web site to come up now..
R&DIDI performance,

EDIT: for some reason won`t let me post the FB Page.
I`ll post the site later when it is back up.

battery age matching and voltage matching is important
CA dont have to match as Vans dont use the same batterie sizes
