Drove 40 miles took half hour then back in the truck and drove to lunch. When I got out of the truck you could smell burning. Opened the hood but there was nothing to see. Coolant level in the plastic hold tank good checked oil level, okay. No sign of smoke but the smell was real. Went in had lunch and came out and nothing. no smell nothing. Drove fifty miles home and nothing every thing working perfect and no smell. Oil temp. 197 to 203 all the way home.
Only thing that was done on truck was last Tuesday Ford did oil change.
I do know Regen. This is not that. Smell of the engine burning. It probably was oil from a sloppy tech at Ford, maybe. I will do a complete inspection of the engine compartment today. Check all fluids and lines . Hopefully I will see what happened. On Sunday I did some running around, shopping, lunch, and a quick trip to the shore and back. I do know it's not there now.
My 2016 smells like my Wife's Self Cleaning Oven during, or right after a Regen. I never noticed that odor on my 2011.
This is how I describe regen on my 2016 - a self-cleaning oven smell. Then I had the underside Fluid-Filmed (carefully avoiding the exhaust, of course) but holy crap, the first regen after than, smoke was pouring from the underside and up between the cab and bed. It gets so hot it burns off anything even nearby.

Let us know if you find anything, ct diesel. Keep in mind you can also return to the dealership and have things looked over. How many miles are on the truck?
the last time my truck did a regen it stunk like burnt rubber..I thought I had a flat tire/tire problem..i looked all over, under and around the truck and could not find why it stunk like burnt rubber... i've noticed that the exhaust system will make unusual stinks when it regens after you drive through rain/snow from the crud off the road getting on it.
