Clunk when accelerating from a stop

2000 excursion 2wd has a slight clunk when taking off from a stop.

New front end: new xrf ball joints/tie rods, timken wheel bearings
New grease on the splines of the drive shaft

Anything else it could be?

Sounds like it is coming from the front. Radius arm bushings, pivot bushing? Is there a way to test these aside from visual inspection? TIA.

It took me awhile on the wife's 2wd Excursion to track down the same noise. It was the drivers side radius arm bushing. You can probably get someone to turn the wheel while you watch for movement...that's how I finally found it. Once I got the weight off it you could really see it so that's an option too. Look at your tires to see if there's any abnormal wear. I bought the kit which can be installed with it on the truck whereas you get the worn bushing out of there, but leave the outer steel part from what I remember as it's been a couple years. I keep checking the other...so far it seems okay...

@bwguardian I believe that is my issue. I feel a pop in the passenger radius arm when my daughter turned the wheel. What kit did you go with?

I don't recall as it's been a couple years back. Let me get that file in front of me and go through it as I keep everything done with either truck. It was probably something I either picked up at the local parts store...maybe picked up off the web...can't remember. From what I do remember is that I was glad it was the driver side as the passenger side looked a little harder to get to...

On the tough ones I’ll have someone idle the truck down the road and jog along side while they try to make the noise occur. Sometimes you can see it sometimes you can’t but most of the time you can identify passenger or driver side.

Looks fairly straight forward on both sides. Not finding any how-to's on this style per se, but older 250s and 150 chassis looks like pressing the old ones out and the new ones in will be the most challenging part. Does this R/R need to be done lifted on jacks or is this doable with all 4 tires on the ground?

At least lighten that side your working with a jack.
Yet the bolt may need yanking to align.

Gee, thanks. Not sure if that was meant to have come across the way it did. I've been a member long enough to recognize your name in asking questions here and offering valuable feedback, alike so I trust it was a misinterpretation.

I've had my successes chasing clunks elsewhere on my F350 4x4 but this one was new for me and less documented in my search specific to the 2wd SD, which changed radius arm styles from the OBS platform so Google has not been a very good friend this time. Thankfully, FTE has been a reliable friend when Google lets me down.

That pivot arm bushings does look like it could clunk on movement.

Indeed. And despite the lack of RA bushing how-to's for 2wd SDs, the pivot bushings are fruitful and appear to be the same across several years and models. I've been soaking up that content. In fact, the RA bushings and pivot bushings appear to be possibly the same bushing, from my own deductive reasoning - or very similar if not - so I have a better idea of the anatomical structure and how to push them all out. I plan to replace all 4 while I'm there but my delimma in ordering right now is do I go with the kit I think bw went with that leaves the outter sleeve and is polyurethane (found 1 FTE post of horrendous squeaking despite greasing them) or do I go with OEM rubber, which will task me with having to push that potentially stubborn outter sleeve out. Decision loading....
