My door lock, doesn’t work from the outside with the key. It’s a brand new lock. Is it just most likely popped out of place? Or did the plastic most likely break?
Both, when the plastic retainer breaks one tab off, the rod falls away
If you are damn good, you can get it fixed without removing the door panel
good luck

This is the photo from when I fixed it. I took it apart, and I fixed it the rod popped in and didn't feel like it wanted to go anywhere. I messed with the lock, locking and unlocking it over and over before it went back together. The lock worked the next two days. Then I go to lock it and it didn't want to move, so I used a little bit of force to see if it was stuck. I heard the rod fall away from the lock and now its back to the same situation, it won't lock or unlock from the outside. When it got stuck it din't want to move from the inside either.

the plastic on those clips over time get pretty brittle. Once them come out of the round hole they clip into, the plastic ridge usually gets rounded off and won't hold as well again....resulting in it coming off more easily. Get a new clip.

You didn’t have the rod fully installed in the clip
The “tab” is supposed to go across the back of the rod to keep it from popping out.
