Is it binding? Does the key turn hard? Try lubing the lock cylinder and the latch...

its not that, it is the little clip on the end of the lock that comes out the door

You can still buy those clips from an auto body store. I bought mine from KC auto paints and they seemed to be alot tougher than the originals. They were made of black plastic instead of the crappy white plastic that tends to get brittle over time. You could also buy them from a junk yard but they would probably be just as brittle.

I bought mine from a body shop that sells body materials like paint, sandpaper, body hammers, etc. They sold all the plastic clips and moldings for most vehicles. The name of the store was KC auto paints. I don't know if they are a national chain or not but I would assume that any body shop supply store would carry them. The black plastic, I believe is made from ABS plastic hence its more durable nature.

Unhappy door clips

Thank you. I called around, several places listed in the auto paint and body parts section of the yellow pages and so far no luck. I will call a few more to see if I can get lucky. Otherwise, I will make a trip to the dealer.

Any auto parts store should be able to get them, it does not have to be a paint store. I have bought several from Oreilly and Napa. You can also buy them from Locksmiths. There is no reason for them to break if they are installed properly and the linkages have not been all bent out of shape.

I found some door lock rod end clips made by W&E that are made for Ford '69 and up (part number 99-2508). They looked like the right part. Although, when I went to install the ends that go through the hole in the lock, I found that they are too small and easily pull right out after installing the rod. I measured the old one and the new one installed on the rod end with calipers and found a .03" difference- just enough I guess. I need to find some different ones that fit right. Anyone know a better brand?

Torque1st is correct.
NAPA and any of the big chains should have those clips in there self help section. They are very cheap, pickup a selection. If everything is lubricated and working smoothly you should never have to replace them. Also make sure your rod that attaches to that lever is not bent. It may be in a bind and causing your clip to break prematurely.

Thanks for the info. The tops of both my inside door locks were bent, so I was replacing them when the old clips broke. Should be good after I get these new clips.
