Spark plug & wires
I changed the spark plugs & wires in my 1999 ranger v-6, it started & ran real rough now it won't start & backfires, I know the firing order is correct as I did 1 plug & wire at a time, I am at a loss.

Check to see if you pulled off any vacuum lines. Did you use plugs recommended by the manual? If so, I would put the Ford plug wires back one at a time. Ford wires are much better than most aftermarket wires. Don't start changing other parts as that could add to the problem. We have all screwed up something as simple as changing plugs. It will be highly educational to figure out what you did. Good luck.

Some plug wires can cause spark when other plug wires are actually the ones supposed to fire. The layout of the wires can cause/defeat the 'cross fire' that can occur. You want to be sure to replace the wires in the layout that was done at the factory in most cases. If your replacement wires are not shielded from cross fire, they can cause spark when they shouldn't.
See what happens when you re-install the old wires. If it then runs without backfire, etc, you should return them and get a better set.
