New to Ford Trucks website here, I have an 1983 F150 4.9 300 inline 6 and I have a transfer switch to replace and I cannot find the stock one anywhere, all the newer ones for it are 5/16 hose connectors and I’m pretty sure they are supposed to be 3/4 inch hoses, I have 2 tanks so it’s a 3 port 2 for incoming and one to goto the engine. Any ideas on the exact part or newer version that isnt 200$ on eBay? Any help on a website or where to get it would be great, Amazon has tons for cheaper but the connector is different for the electronic side which isn’t a big deal to me as I can switch it, but the ports are only 5/16 any help would be geeat
The numbers you need to search for are E5TZ-9189-A, and E5TZ-9189-A. I did a little searching and most places are out of stock, though some claim they could get it. It never said the hose barb sizes, but that is the Ford part number.
I think I would get under there and make sure they are 3/8 hoses and not 5/16 hoses.
My fuel pump takes 5/16 hose so the valve has to be the same size 5/16.
I got mine off Ebay and it works fine.
I did have to change the electrical hook up.

Now I have the switch and new tanks, new sending unit, new vent valves and new lines, problem is I get gauge reading with float out of the tanks, but when I’m the tank nothing. I only have about 2.5 to 3 gallons of gas in the tank at the moment, so not sure if I need more to get them to register or what, but no fuel comes out of either sending unit, the the rear or the front tank. I don’t seem to have a fuel relay or a fuel inertia switch on this particular model, but then again it has been botched over a lot: I have looked everywhere for these too and none that I can find. Basically everything installed correctly, but no fuel comes from the sending unit at all.
Like was said in your other post, add more fuel. I would also get a small squirt bottle and pre-fill the fuel bowl in the carb also. This will let the engine run for almost a minute, and in that time it gives the fuel pump plenty of time to fill a empty fuel system.
BUT, it has Black Smoke coming from the exhaust right now, now everything I read said it’s burning rich. Will that go away once the fuel I poured in the bowl burns off or do I need to adjust the carburetor some, I had to pull the termo coil off the carb and I’m not sure if it’s in right position or not. Also not sure if that has anything to do with it at all.
And make sure you are using 5/16 hose not 3/8 hose like I said in your other post.

Some trucks do use 3/8 fuel suction line, the diesel trucks for example. I know you had trouble getting the 3/8 line to work once, but it is commonly used on vehicles. Smaller line will prime quicker, but the larger line will work also.
