Question Dashcam Advice

Hello friends,

Considering a dashcam setup (likely 2 channel) with parking mode and LTE so I can keep an eye on it/not need the camera to see what happened.

Curious of some things:
1. Any brands that have worked well/avoid? (I am considering the BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE)
2. How did the install work for you, and what would you do/not do next time? My truck does not have the glass roof, so I suppose wire routing should not be terrible to the rear?!?!
3. Anyone have success using the footage to catch thief/vandal/show accident fault?

Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking about installing a front and back camera as well.
I keep reading about the Garman models, Thinkware models and Vantrue N4

Another company I keep reading good things about is Viofo.

https://viofo.com/dash-cam/149-viofo...sh-camera.html

I don't know.

Too many people in my area (very heavy traffic) that drive like a$$clowns and lie to the police about what happened in any accidents (that is assuming they don't take off).

Friend was in a fender bender, and their camera saved them a lot of heartache due to a typical situation where the stories didn't match between the drivers at to what happened.
Cameras take care of that issue.

I need to get one too.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

I got a BlackVue for our Tacoma from these guys and I'll get something for our F450. I want to use a FORD trailer camera kit on our camper but I have to find out if it's compatible.

I have been very happy with my Thinkware F800 Pro. They have moved beyond that model, but the Thinkware cameras have been very good to me.

I’m pretty happy with my BlackVue.

I have some great video of stupidity. I should start a YouTube channel.

I am using the Thinkware Q1000 and hate the software. I wish I would have waited for the new BlackVue. The new Viovo has a new Starvis sensor that is interesting too.

I have the same model. Works fine. Install was easier than I expected. Getting the front camera reinstalled after the windshield was replaced wasn't any fun, but that would happen with any camera that adheres to the windshield.

I have Viofos in 3 vehicles. If I were to do it again, I would only choose Garmin. One thing that a lot of people dont do is go back and review footage. All three of my Viofos just flat out stop recording at some point with no notice. Each time I have to reformat the SD card. At this point I would rather stick to a large brand than some no name brand. Wish I had known.

Will do. What i am not a fan of is the in-car mic recording. Who knows what I will say, and there are enough devices recording us (self-surveillance) where that is not my goal.

Thing to keep in mind, they all use the same optics, so video quality will be the same for the vast majority of dash cams sold. Features and ease of use are the things to shop for. I have a Wolfbox G840s with GPS and rear camera. It straps to your rearview mirror and gives a split screen at startup which turns off after a few minutes leaving a regular mirror in it's place. It also will keep the mic off on reboot if you turn it off where some only stay off during that use and default to on at every start. It doesn't have in cabin video unless you set the rear camera up that way, but its meant to be installed at the rear of the vehicle like a back up camera, and acts like a rear view mirror.

The only downside of the Wolfbox is that when mounted on the mirror, part of the video is blocked by the forward camera housing on the truck.

I have used a Garmin Nuvicam since 2015 and it takes excellent videos.

Some of the videos I have seen really make me think about this - the new Blackvue uses the old sensor, and side-by-side I can see a significant difference in getting a plate to show.

How has the license plate readability been on the Wolfbox? I do like the concept of not sticking it to the windshield as well.

I turned off the microphone on my dashcam. I know what I say and nobody needs to hear that.

I was gifted a Apeman dash cam (from Amazon with great reviews) the video is great but wont record on the SD card. Have to constantly format only to have it show "folder is empty".

Good to know, I'll have to check mine occasionally.

I have a Viofo A229 2k front and rear camera, no LTE. It works well, really no complaints. If you want to review video a lot, swapping out the video cards on mine would be the easiest way. I just wanted something that is recording all the time. With a 256 Gb card I think I have the last five hours of video available when the truck is on. When parked it takes stills and video when is senses a shock.

I don't have a rear cam due to the rear window graphic on the truck. But I have Rove R2 4K in both the truck and my Mustang. The best of the 3 or 4 brands I've used over the years.
If the SD card gets full the display tells you and asks if you want to reformat.
