Oil change question

The last two times I have changed the oil I end up blowing out the IPR screen about a week later. I am super careful about keeping things clean and use Motorcraft filter and oil. The truck has 180K, but did sit undriven for about 4 years. Anyone have any tips, tricks, products or procedures they do when they change their oil. Changing the IPR is not my idea of fun.

Thanks!

You have the right cap for the motorcraft filter?

I had the same problems with mine, it sat for 3 years. i just got in and started driving as an everyday driver. well, it wasn't long before i stated having problems with a multitude of things. you need to check all hoses and harnesses for dry rot and chaffing.

check out this video on fuel pumps and filters by Tomanytoys. Very informative. My filter is in it as an example of what happens with sitting to long, and maybe bad fuel.

Trash in the IPR screen could very well be from a failing HPOP.

Hopefully the oil system isn't dirty enough to cause your problems, but (as mentioned above) a tall aftermarket oil filter cap with an OEM filter can sure contribute to what you are seeing!

You might also check the oil you drain out of the pan for debris - maybe even send a sample off for analyses! You don't need a complete oil change to grab a sample. It isn't that hard to crack the plug to catch a sample in a wide mouth jar, and then transfer to a sample bottle.
