1992 460 runs for 15 min and then dies
Hello I just bought a 1992 f350 with the 460. I'm trying to work out a problem with my truck. The problem is that It will run for 15 min or so and then will die and not start back up. It did this the other day and the next day I was able to start it. The battery and alternator are fine. It also seams to be using more fuel that normal and not as powerful. I changed the value cover gaskets, water pump, gasket, and timing cover gasket and then this problem occurred. It also looks like some on tried to cut the CAT off of the truck. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
Run it for 20 minutes in the shop or outside with a spark tester on it
Chances are you are losing spark and the TFI is at fault
There is the coil and the stator too
The stator provides the pip signal that you can test (negative side of coil test light will blink when cranking)
The coil can be ohm tested and you can watch for sparks with the engine running, when spraying with a squirt bottle of water
Doubt you have a fuel problem, or restricted exhaust if it runs fine for 15 minutes
