I have a 1964 E-100 pickup with a 170 CID engine and a three speed 3.03 transmission. The carb is the factory Autolite 1100/1101. It has been rebuild and its clean. I cannot get the engine to idle at the factory spec of 500-550. The engine just dies. I can drive it until it needs to be shifted. Once shifted, it dies. Why? Is there a secret to these carbs?
@EricJ Nothing happens when I turn the Idle Mixture Screw, 1000 rpm's without dying and yes, I can manipulate the choke to keep it idling.
That carb. has to be clogged and it's not getting fuel out of the idle jet. You need to clean it or have someone do it if you don't feel comfortable with it.
EDIT: I was going to suggest you stop by until I noticed you were in San Diego. Go to the club forums here and find a ford truck guy in San Diego and reach out to him/her and see if you can get him to meet with you and look at it for you.
