Just got my Excursion, and have been looking for info on it everywhere. Have been surfing this forum and it seems to be a wealth of info from some good guys.
I am new to Ford, except for a 66' f100 my grandpa left me. Sold my 88' fulsize chevy Blazer with intentions of a 99' or newer 3/4 ton burb, but the Excursion had more stuff for less and I love it so far. Wanted a bigger truck for towing camper and could not keep rearends in the Blazer. Got a 2000 limited, 4x4 v10, 3.73 rear, 30k miles. Truck rides great on orginal firestone steeltex. Got no idea of mileage yet, computer says 11.3 mpg.
only question for now is the passenger air bag deactivation switch my book shows in the same place as the power point, can not find it on mine and does not say it is an option. Thanks
I don't think Excursions have an air bag deactivation switch. Since it has four full doors it is assumed that you will not put small children in the front seat. My dad's F250 supercab has the switch, but my Excursion doesn't.
***note: the above assumption is made by the manufacturer. Not me.***
As a side note... Super Duty pickup Regular & Supercabs have them but the Crew Cab does not. I think Ford was thinking the same thing that you assumed they were.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Nov-02 AT 11:00 PM (EST)]I looked into this. A on-off switch for the airbag is installed if there is no full size rear seat. You can have one installed but first you have to fill out an authorization request form from the DOT. Explain to them why you need to disable the airbag. Then when your authorization letter arrives you have to find a shop that will install the switch which most likely you'll have to provide. Then be prepared to pay about $800. I got as far as receiving my authorization letter and quote from a local dealership.
The DOT has a list of shops willing to install the switch. I don't know why it costs so much, but after learning the cost I lost interest. My wife will just have to take 1 kid less. She drives for the kids school functions. All of this of course is in the state of California. I guess I should of said that part first.
