I'm in the final stages of a two year build. As I reassembly the interior specifically the front windshield I am trying to ensure I properly reinstall an upper windshield retainer I removed. As I researched this forums information thread I discover some trucks came with a box cover reinforcement kit. From the pictures of the kit it looks as though the windshield reinforcement retainer was installed on the bottom inside of the windshield. The retainer I removed was installed on the upper/top side. My truck doesn't have the hood reinforcement shown as part of the kit, however those could have been removed over the years or perhaps somewhere in the past history of the truck, because of the corrosion on the windshield seam they obtained and used this retainer for extra enforcement on the upper side of the windshield. I have since repaired the corrosion, so I guess
my question is do I need to reinstall this retainer? Or is there any harm in using it for extra security? Thoughts?

It was intended to lessen chance of the windshield being shoved in on the occupants I guess, my '77 does not have it, nor the grabber hooks at the hood hinges. I don't think you "need" to use it, but likely there is no "harm" in using it. I don't know if it was effective in any case. How bad was the rust? Which WS did you use ... solid no trim might be the stronger of the choices?
