Hi folks, I don't know what to call this thing. I needed to replace the Y diverter for the windshield washers. After removing the wipers and the black vent cover under the wipers, there is a sort of filler material that runs the length of the vent (cowl?) cover between it and the windshield. When I removed the cover, this filler came apart in several pieces. It was very stiff and would break easily.
The question is, how necessary is this piece, and is it a dealer item? Anyone know what this is called? I can take a picture if we need to.
This is where it goes- I think it was originally glued to the black cover. Is this some sort of cowl cover?
Main question is, this material is very stiff, breaks easily. I think it's glued to the cowl cover with adhesive backing, then presses against the windshield.
You won't easily find that material so just remove it completely, reinstall the cowl covers and be done with it. if the cover attaching screws are properly tightened it won't vibrate or cause any issues, its simply an appearance item that when no present isn't even noticed.
I'm in the windshield biz so deal with this all the time.
Great news! I was a little concerned- I thought this barrier kept the really big stuff out of the well where the wiper linkage was and could possibly block any drain that is there.
