In the section for older vehicles, they show reliability and problem charts for vehicles through model years and identify problem areas across the board. F250 had a lot of red and orange bubbles across engine major, minor, etc.

No issues on my end running Ford gas trucks for my business since 2003. 5.4L 2v, 5.4L 3v, 6.8L 3v, 6.2L, 7.3L and expecting four new 6.8L within the month. Haven't been burned by a SuperDuty gas truck yet and usually put 3xx-4xx mi on them before retired from service. On top of the brand new ones I purchase, I also run plenty of used auction picks that also last a good deal coming from questionable maintenance of the previous owner/owners.

Had a few Dodge and GM over the years as well and Ford was always the better truck. Have two brand new Ram 3500s but still like the Fords better. Most likely going to sell the Rams when my Ford fleet order comes in.

I've had a subscription to CR for over forty years and never did think the annual auto issue was worth the paper it's printed on. First it was all about the big 3 bashing, always favoring Japanese imports. Then the most important issue seemed to be how many cup holders the vehicle had. These days their most important criteria is the "infotainment" system and pushing for every electronic nanny option to compensate for poor driving ability. They never did give useful information about 3/4 ton or larger trucks. Next time you see someone working out of their Super Duty, ask them how they like it. I've owned 1 Chevy, 1 Dodge and am on my 4th Ford over the past forty years, for what it's worth.

Yep; I'm going with "C", CR doesn't know what they are talking about and/or are biased against trucks and other vehicles they don't like.

I happened to be able to peruse the auto issue of CR. CR is not particularly glowing in their review of the F250 (and I'd assume 350). Now, I will admit this is the first heavy duty / work truck I'll be buying. My assumption (I know, I know) was that trucks that folks rely on as part of their living would be more reliable the grocery getter type trucks. Looking at CR, that does not seem to be the case.

Full disclosure this is not a work truck for me. It's a pavement queen w/ recreational RV tow duty responsibilities. I got tire of playing the weight games w/ light duty trucks (payload, RAWR, etc.).

I had thought that the various problems I always see on the F150 forums would be behind me; oil burning 5.0s, overheating 3.5 EBs, janky IWEs on the 4WD systems, etc.

Are these trucks reliable? I know the 7.3 had spark plug issues early on, and there looks like a bad batch of phasers went out. I'm thinking I won't have those issues (I hope) since my truck will be way past when those problems were identified.

CR doesn't split across engines and what not. Did the score go down b/c of the truck themselves? Diesel engine issues? Godzilla spark plug issues? CR just full of crap?

Thoughts, opinions, rants?

Absolutely love my 2022 F-250 SuperCrew w/ 7.3L.

It is my daily driver that also pulls a 7000# 32 ft Travel Trailer on many weekends. I used to own an F-150 5.0L SuperCrew w/ 5.0L, but like you mentioned wanted a bit bigger truck to handle the weight better.
I'm very very happy with my purchase. I'd buy another one no questions asked.
I only have 12,000 miles on mine so far, but happy to report zero problems to date.
