currently have a 16 2.7 ecoboost i tow about 4/5k pounds daily in an enclosed trailer for work, so far havent had any major issues with my truck except worry about wear and tear in it, thinking of upgrading to 17 super duty gas, thoughts???
What wear and tear issues are concerning you? You looking for more power or just concerned about the stresses on the drivetrain in general from towing constantly?
Sounds like you're looking for an excuse to upgrade.
Hate to disappoint you, but you're not going to hurt the truck. Hundreds of thousands of these trucks are used for commercial work, and they seem to be doing quite well. You're pulling about half your rated weight on a daily basis...as long as you follow the severe service maintenance schedule the truck should be just fine. I wouldn't get a Super Duty for your use.
I have to agree with Tom, the F150 will be easier to live with on a day to day basis, maintenance will be cheaper, way more comfortable, etc...Trust me, I traded a 2014 F250 Platinum last year, Loved the truck, but with having to travel as I do, the F150 made more sense.
I'm going to agree with the previous posts. You're well within the normal range of your truck and I wouldn't worry about adverse wear and tear. Granted, you'll probably have to adhere to the severe duty cycle requirements. But I bet you'll still be money ahead over an SD.
Keep the F-150, hang out, and brag about how well your truck performs. We need more folks working their trucks here to calm the clowns down
If it starts to have failing parts due to hard use, then trade it. If you just want a Super Duty, get it. I think the F150 will stand up to the use your getting out of it though.
I believe that the EcoBoosts like to be worked hard and so far the 2.7 is looking like a truly outstanding power plant.
A 6.2 F250 feels like a slug even without a trailer.
After driving a 6.2L truck for work for a short time last year, I'd completely agree. This thing had 4.30s, and was an absolute pooch compared to my F150.
