Well, CR didn't survey me about mine. (although as I recall Ford did) because mine has been just about flawless, for 18 months and just under 12,000 miles.
Ford is always mid pack to bottom and it is for reason (why did they have to leave the sedan market with their tails between their legs?). They don’t have the best QC practices, so some trucks are totally fine while others are lemons. My truck has had plenty of problems next dealer trip will probably have me requesting a buyback (I’ve already satisfied lemon law) and it’s also been undriveable multiple times. I wouldn’t buy one if you live far from a dealer or have a bad dealer nearby. That said after the initial issues are worked out they will last for a long time albeit usually with quirks. Get in an older truck and look up at the door seal on the highway, you can see daylight. These aluminum bodies are better though. Ask any audio installer why you shouldn’t put your amp rack under the back window (they are very likely to leak) in any full size not just ford. Also this all being said building big pickup trucks is a PITA, tundra’s while not heavy duty are never toyota’s most reliable vehicle. CR isn’t full of it, and these trucks are prone to problems just be ready for it. However, in my experience the ford dealers tend to be better than other makes. All of my issues have been things that a decent quality program would have caught, which is why I’m still in the truck. I don’t believe the design of this vehicle is unreliable or exceptionally flawed. However, I do believe that if anyone besides ford or ram built a solid front axle 3/4 or one ton I would be driving that though.
Ive had three Super Duty trucks, a GM 6.6 diesel HD, several Suburbans, Expedition EL and a E350 15 pass van.
I towed heavy with all of them.
My Super Dutys never had a problem
I hate the Ford Motor Company. I hate their horrible leadership, corporate culture, low quality control, just a terrible organization that has been destroyed by its own weight and wokeness. BUT....GM is more woke and Ive never failed to have some sort of problem with their products, and Dodge is just an absurd joke of of a junk pile product that proves beyond any shadow of a doubt that even if you have a mountain of evidence to prove something is garbage, some people will still buy it as long as it is painted and wearing silver colored plastic
So there are your options..
The best bad decision you can make. HEY!!! THAT'S Ford's new slogan!!!!!
Did the score go down b/c of the truck themselves? Diesel engine issues? Godzilla spark plug issues? CR just full of crap?

Ford has earned its poor quality reputation. I believe the current CEO should get out of the car business and make sure I get the fries I ordered with my Big Mac.
But CR’s biggest criticism of Ford is that they failed to be Toyota or Honda. Their bias is legendary, and their reviewers are not “car guys” in the truest sense.
I used to subscribe to CR, and I was using them as a reference when I had to buy something like, say, a dishwasher. Then I realized that while they seemed very well informed on matters I knew little about, every time they were talking about something I knew very well (say, photo cameras, computers…) their analysis and conclusions were at least skewed if nt plainly bonkers. That made me pause…
I used to subscribe to them and did for years. I started seeing them talk crap about every American vehicle I have owned and praised the foreign brands. I have owned both and have owned 26 so far in my lifetime. Every one of them was a good reliable vehicle except for one. It was a Dodge Pickup that I bought brand new. Dodge makes a good vehicle but not for me. I canceled my subscription years ago and never looked back and I will never own a Dodge again.
I'm pretty much resigned to not subscribing again myself. I've found a lot of inconsistencies with some of their ratings. I even emailed their editorial folks as I was looking at tire charts on their full year buying guide, car issue, and another issue all within the same year that had differing tires, scores, etc. If you believed one chart the others pointed you in another direction.
Read between the lines on their "reliability". If something is too difficult to figure out without reading the OM, then they ding the vehicle. For the longest time Ford would be at the bottom because MFT was too hard to figure out, it wasn't, just that people are too lazy to read the manual to learn it. Ford provided and extensive SYNC manual, yet got dinged because it was too complicated. Of course the recent rash of recalls on all the Fords has put them at the bottom of the list, that and they weren't built by a Japanese company.

I subscribed about 15-20 years ago. We bought an expensive front loading washer and dryer based on their recommendations as top picks. As soon as the warranty expired, both had expensive repairs and then died altogether.
Side question, do I have to be a member for 10 days before I can make a signature? I'd love to put in what I ordered, but I don't have the signature option anywhere in my User CP.
??
I installed my Signature the same day I signed up to this forum, not too long ago.
You are using the Control Panel to access the Signature option, right?

Yes.
And now I shamefully see at the top of the forum page a note telling me I can't create a signature until I've made 5 posts and waited 10 days. Maybe you got lucky and found a beneficial bug.
Consumer reports should be your last source for reviews on full size pick up trucks, especially in the 8500+ GVWR segment. Their strong suit is reviewing minivans and cross over commuters and should stay out of reviewing trucks in general.
Consumer reports should be the LAST PLACE anyone goes for ANYTHING auto review related, they SUCK!!!
Glad I asked and didn't get caught up in what I was seeing !
Since I do not subscribe to CR I am curious what exactly you were seeing? Is it just a low score, or do they say what the basis for the score is? I noticed that JD Power (another possibly worthless source) has some kind of problems per 100 vehicle list, Ford is among the highest, only other domestic that beat it was Lincoln. I would assume (not know) that it has something to do with poor quality control, number of recalls, and number of warranty repairs as well as some sort of negative owner feedback. Not specific to the SD, but the SD (not every single one) has it's had its share of all those too.
On a forum like this you will find owners who have not had a single problem, and others who have had numerous issues. Some who will never talk down on any Ford product, no matter what, and some who are to the point of leaving the brand for good. You also have a range of people with different tolerances. All you can do if you want an SD is roll the dice and hope that you, like many others, get a flawless product.
