Brakes
Brakes
I am hearing a squeak out of my rear brakes 62k miles on the truck. What mileage are you guys replacing brakes at? 2019 dually and tow most off the time with it.
Do I need to Replace pads and rotors or just pads generally. What brand do you recommend.
thanks

for me?
I can get close to 75k to 100k on a set of brake pads.
for my daughter?
maybe 5,000 miles

I back off on the throttle a long ways from a stop, and let the truck coast down.
She drives up to the stop sign and hits the brakes

Yes I know what you mean with driving style. I am like you with slowing down and not soaking the brakes etc… I got 100k on my suburban before replacing the factory pads and rotors. I figured the truck towing probably puts me way less tho. Could be a rock eve. I haven’t looked.
I'd think that the rear brakes should last much longer than the mileage that you're at.
You might want to take a look at the parking/emergency brake mechanism where the cable enters the backing plate. I had one that wasn't fully returning to its released position. My truck would make brake noise after using the parking brake. I found the issue when I compared the cables, side to side. You might also check to make sure that you don't have a caliper pin that's hanging up. I use an infrared thermometer to check my brakes when I suspect an issue.

If the rotors are not scored scuff them with 120 grit on a DA sander install new pads .. Never turn Ford rotors they have a problem
warpping after they're turned .. last time I bought rotors I think they were about $70.00 each cost about $30.00 to turn them ..
A couple hard stops or 1 good down hill and You get to buy new anyway ..

I would highly recommend that you look very closely at those rear rotors.
I seem to get around 80K with heavy towing.
Those rear rotors hold the salt in and maybe rusted pretty bad since you are in durango.

And, yes, rear brakes should last a very long time compared to the front, they do less than half of the stopping.
I am willing to bet it's your ebrake mechanism.. Here in the salt kingdom I take mine apart and service them because they start to squeak, like a pebble or a squealer.
I got about 60K on my rear pads. I would have got more but one of the guide pins was seized causing one pads to wear more and not float. If you drive mainly empty and not like you stole it I would expect 80k -100K before the rear need to be done.
