Weak brakes!

Am I the only one who thinks the superduty brakes are a weak point of the truck? With all the power, towing and hauling capabilities, one would think that the brakes on these trucks would be top notch, but that hasnt been my experience. I have 2006 F350 srw, and the brakes feel spongy, and I have to put some good pressure into the peddle when coming to a stop from any type of speed. Is it just me or do others agree? And whats have guys done to upgrade, Powerslot or what?

Thanks, DB

You either have a problem with your brakes, or you need to go back-to-back testing with the competition to understand that you have the best brakes on the market. The Chevy doesn't even come close, but the Dodge does a decent job of stopping. Have you tried flushing the fluid?

I agree with Dan.

I thought the same thing till a shop had my rear wheels off and there was barely anything left of the rear pads, even tore up the rotors and seized up a caliper! I guess thats the bad thing about having an 03 with a 4" exhaust, you can't hear things breaking.

I would deff give the system a look. The brakes on our trucks are top notch and will last for tens of thousands of miles without having to be replaced. The front pads on my truck didn't have to get replaced until 60k miles, and thats towing heavy loads for about 20k of those miles.

I have an '06 with 60K miles. The brakes are still at almost 80%. My dualie stops very well. I bought EBC Greenstuff brake pads for when the factory ones wear out. At this rate, it will be a long time before I get to try this upgrade. As great as braking is on these trucks, the EBC's are a definite step up. Others have also highly recommended the ART rotors and brake pads. My guess is you have a mechanical problem with yours...

I'm in the same boat as Emmagator, I've always thought that my brakes were soft. I'm about to change out the shocks and when I do I'm going to take the brakes apart to see how they look. The thing is that they've been this way ever since the truck was brand new.

I've got 101K on my original brakes and still have pad left. It's getting a little harder to do multiple stops due to the heat build up factor, but these have been excellent. Brake fluid does absorb water over time and needs to be changed. Probably the most neglected fluid in a vehicle, but definitely the MOST important.

Mine work great, even while towing. They do have a softer feel but I use very little pressure to get the truck stopped. I dont drive like a snail but I also dont wait till last minute to brake. I have found that if I do have to make an agressive stop and use some pressure the pedal does feel kind of spongy and goes down quite a bit. I believe this is the nature of a Hydro-boost brake system though.
