Id like to buy a spare pump because of where we live and because its 65 miles to the nearest repair shop. That being said any opinions on a complete Motorcraft unit ,PFS389??, or just the pump itself? Is it worth buying the pump only and making one fit or work? Recon I'm still unclear on if my truck is federal or Ca compliant which it states neither and the pumps are different. This is for our 99F250 SD crew cab 4x4 V10 auto
Given your situation... I would keep on hand the entire unit, including gaskets and any special tools to release the push on fittings.
I would only get it from your local Ford dealer.
Give them your VIN number when you go visit them.
Keep your receipt in the box with the unit.

Just had to R&R the fuel pump on my wife's car... although I prefer to get OEM components, her's is a bit old so I had to do some digging to find the likely mfg for Ford.... I bought a Delphi oem replacement unit and aside from being a bit less than if MC actually sold them, the component was very, very nice and came with a 1 year warranty! Smooth, quiet excellent fit... the only thing I reused was the locking ring as the original was a bit HD of construction! Even the gasket (o-ring) was an excellent fit!
