Ford fuel starve

Hi, i have a 75 ford w a 460 v8 and edelbrock carb. (bought it that way) i have 2 gas tanks w a switch in the cab. i have fuel starvation symptoms which come irradicably but seem to come when fastly accelerating to get to speep or around long frwy on ramp turns.

will a fuel pump help? preferably after the tanks but before the carb (duh)

thanks

A '75 460 should have a mechanical fuel pump on the engine. You can easily check for fuel delivery by disconnecting the fuel line at the fuel pump input side and lightly pressurize the tanks and make sure you have good flow. You can also replace the fuel pump if you think it's suspect. Might be just as easy to disconnect the fuel line at the carb and crank it over a couple times with the coil wire removed to make sure you have adequate delivery to the carb.
That all said, I would suspect ignition over fuel delivery given the symptoms you described. It could be as simple as the dist not advancing correctly, whether it's a bad vacuum advance can, something off inside, bad vacuum hose somewhere, bad plugs or wires, or just needing a tune up. A weak or failing coil could be a possibility, too.

Wayne gave you some good advice but are you aware your in the 1948-1956 truck section? You might be better served in the appropriate year section. Good luck.

I agree with 52 Merc as it sounding like an ignition problem. Does the engine miss under load, or while accelerating? If so I would check for good healthy fat blue spark. Unless changed by someone I think in 75, Ford went with the electronic "breakerless" ignition the fore-runner to the Duraspark if I recall correctly. It uses a stator, and a pick up unit in the distributor which drove an amplifier which provided switching to the coil to provide the spark to the distributor and then the plugs. If you have lose connectors, bad connections, loose pick up unit, weak amplifier or coil, you could have issues. Make sure you are getting good 12 volt power to the circuit. Then check for spark. An old mid 70's Chiltons will have good information on how to troubleshoot these things. If you can't find what you need, let me know and I could try to forward you some.
