Illinois auction

Man you Flat Landers have all the luck

Just a little too far for me to drive for this junk but Stu and Rob are close enough.

https://www.parrottauctions.com/auct...r?pageSize=125

A couple of pictures for those up for a project I'm sure there will be a few here who think these are worth Big $$$$$$ Most of the stuff here seem to be in the same condition. It's a shame, I'd bet this guy was wouldn't sell anything and was "going to restore" them all.

This is 10 miles from where I live, I knew the previous owner well, he was well known for being a hoarder, used to go to every auction.

They have been working at cleaning out the smaller stuff for months which is a shame, lots of good stuff scrapped

This is just a start, he has probably 6 or more locations,

I have seen show up at a auction and on a whim buy the property and then start piling the place full
He once bought a beautiful brick home on a pond that was like 20 years old, then piled it full , never replaced the roof and the house it now almost totally collapsed.

I saw him buy a nice diesel loader tractor at auction, take it to the same place where this auction is and use it till it ran out of fuel and then just left it there.

Yea, he would never sell one single thing, I am going to the auction just to look around but these have most all been sunk deep in the mud for decades, not good for a project as far as I am concerned, besides I have to many projects now.

Have you seen the Studebaker dealership neon sign? Best piece at the auction I think

Yes. And even that isn't that good.

if it was closer, over a six hour drive and having to drive through Illinois , I would go just to watch.

What I'd do at an auction like this is look for vehicles with one or two good parts, wait for the scrap dealers who bid on them and then offer them pennies on the dollar for the parts I want. This technique has worked for me many times. The scrap dealer are more than happy to sell a few ounces of "scrap meta" for a decent percentage of what they paid for it. I get the parts I want dirt cheap and I don't have to dispose of rusty hulk. We both win. If I went to this auction I'd bring my jack and wrenches and I'd check out the larger trucks and see what condition the wheels are in. If the five lug wheels were good, non WMs I'd offer to buy the wheels for $10 apiece and I'm sure the scrapper would be happy as heck to get some of their money back.

Panel has to be pretty crusty for the side to have let go to flap in the wind. Prolly some salvageable pieces for the guy that needs panel-only parts.

I tried to see if there were original seats in the panels. If there are they would be worth bidding on. I doubt the back doors are any good, another item that would make the truck worth something. Like I said, if it was closer I'd waste a day going just to walk around the junk and watch the bidding go crazy. Or maybe nothing will sell except to the scrappers.

I've know a lot of old guys like over the years. I wonder how they were able to afford to amass such collections. Probably had a lot to do with timing. When these guys were younger they could pick up stuff for next to nothing. My dad would buy decent running cars for $10-50 back in the early '70s. Heck, back in the early '80s I could pick up a OK truck for $200,or less. Even had a couple given to me but now with the internet and the "reality" TV shows everyone with a piece crap rust bucket vehicle sitting behind their shed thinks they have gold plated Rolls Royces .

I'd probably go if I didn't have plans and someone counting on me tomorrow. Probably 3 hour drive but I have a thing about walking around rust! Ha! thanks for posting Bob...keep posting if you hear of the additional forthcoming auctions.

If I was only three hours away I'd have to go. Just to roam around and look at the junk. I have very low requirements for entertainment. I have driven over six hours to retrieve a parts car from an online auction depending of online reports from fellow car people I didn't even know but they sent me a huge amount of pictures and descriptions of the car. I can't drive over six hours just to look at stuff I'm pretty certain isn't worth it.
