460 fuel issue

460 fuel issue
i got a 81 ford motorhome with the 460 carbed it only starts if i poor some gas in the carb sounds like a fuel pump but i disconnected the fuel line before the carb and turned it over and it is pumping gas out so the fuel pump is working and its got a brand new fuel filter what could the problem be

Hook the fuel line back up, crank it a few times, and then take the plastic end of a good sized screwdriver and peck on the top front of the carb. That may jar loose the needle valve. I bet this thing has been sitting a little while correct?

Alright I'll try that tomorrow. Ya it is the 4 bbl motorcraft carb and it has been sitting for about a year but it was running on its own for about 20 minutes a week ago then it killed its self and now I can only start it by putting gas in the carb
