I want to replace the resistance wire on my 77 camper special. I've read some posts about removing this wire but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to remove the terminal from the back of the switch connector. Anyone know how to get the terminal out of the connector? I've attached some pictures of the connector for reference I've
Or use a very small flat tip screwdriver and push over the lock tang. And I mean SMALL flat tip and it will only need to be pushed in a very small amount to release the terminal. Kind of like this set up.
Thanks for the quick response @77&79F250! I tried everything, even the tool you mentioned. Finally I noticed that there is one slot in the plug that didn't have a connector in it. I looked at it closely and noticed that there is a plastic finger sticking up along the backside of the terminal (highlighted in red in the first picture). You have to push this back. Further down there is a tit on it that goes into a hole on the side of the terminal.
Now that I have the terminal out, any idea where I can get a new one? I haven't ever seen anything like this before.
I dont know why you would need to replace this wire?
Is it because you replaced the dist. with a HEI and it needs a full 12 volts?
If so I hate to tell you you wasted your money as you dont gain anything but less money in your pocket as there is nothing wrong with the DSII system.
So if you really want to run a full 12 volts to what ever use the resistance wire to switch a relay on & off.
This way you dont have to cut into your harness, find that end and if you ever want to return to stock you can as the factory wire is still there.

Shop manual will give you a measurement of how close to cut resistance wire to switch and splice in replacement wire. I don't have a manual handy or I would tell you.
