Unattached wire by ignition

Unattached wire by ignition
While installing a new ignition switch, I found this lose black wire. It is attached to plastic part that appears broken off of something. Any guidance?

It looks like the part that attaches to the ignition lock cylinder housing for the key in ignition chime.

Thanks for the answer. Is it the case
that if I can reattach with the new part the only harm will be no chime?

correct. Unattached no chime.

Take the top cover off the column and you should be able to see where it goes. Photo liberated from another thread:


It might have fallen out when you removed the ignition lock cylinder.

Many thanks, I'm anxious to get the truck back on the road. It's a '95 with a standard cab and short bed; it amazes me how many people admire it.
