Ignition switch issue?
Drove my 05 Excursion in to work today. All was good. Leave work to go to a Dr appointment. Still perfect! Finish at the Dr, get in the truck, turn the key to run, glow plug light goes out, turn the key and…nothing. I mean absolutely nothing. No click, no change whatsoever. Even the radio kept playing, no temporary pause like it does normally when starting. The key does turn past “run”, but only slightly…has springiness but I’m honestly not sure it’s turning as far as it normally would.I pulled the ignition switch and it seems absolutely fine. Put it back in and same thing.
Leave the key in “run”, pull starter wire and touch positive battery terminal…truck fires right up. I’ve checked lots of fuses, but to no avail.
So, back in August I had to pull the dash and steering column covers for some reason…don’t even remember why now. Anyway, the plastic clip for the “key in ignition” chime broke when I did this. I found a part of it on the floor and couldn’t find the other part. I assumed I just couldn’t find it. Well, apparently it was down in the space where the cylinder lock goes and took 8 months to find its way into a crevice, stopping the key from turning all the way. Found it when I pulled the cylinder again today. 😂
