Preventive maint work

I have an oil cooler replacement coming up. I'm thinking about having the injectors changed when oil cooler is done. As of right now, I don't have head gasket issues that I know of, should I have studs put in without changing head gaskets when I have the other work done?

Although possible and it has been done (not sure on longevity), I would never attempt such a task.

Would you build a cinder block wall without rebar? NO

Do it right or don't do it at all IMO

Good Luck

How many miles are on it? Tuner? Im at 298k miles and no head studs without any issues. Dont fix what isnt broke? Why replace the oil cooler and injectors also. Mileage on your truck would be helpful...

I'm at 234k mi. I've replaced the water pump, and fan clutch, and the hpop was done 4 or 5 years ago. Temps are running about 18° apart when I take it easy. I thinkbraduator or heater core may be stopped up, too. Injectors have some stiction. I was going to go back with 155/30 or 175/30. And I do have a tuner on for it but I'm not running tunes at this time.

I would try some Rev X or Archoil for your injector stiction before replacing. I used Rev X and it worked great on my stiction issue years ago.

I use seafoam for diesel in fuel and oil before oil changes and change all filters. That usually takes care of it.

I use sea foam in all my small power equipment and it works well. I have read it is for all engines but never considered putting it in my truck.

Have you been doing it long?

3 or 4 years. I used to use Revx at every oil change but adding $35 to every oil change seemed ridiculous to me. Seafoam cleans everything just as good, if not better, from my experience.

Interesting

So you are adding it to the oil, not fuel tank?

I have never read the bottle for dilution tables, I just eyeball it in to the fuel on my small power equipment. How much to do add?

I eyeball it, too. I add it to fuel and oil.

Archoil friction modifier in crankcase(add to fresh oil)and Archoil diesel treatment in gas tank at double dose for first two tanks

I've got 200k on mine with stock head bolts. When I tow, I tow hard. I don't baby it. I'm not running tunes.

If you want to run those large injectors or any tunes other than the Atlas 40 tow tune, you'll need studs and new HGs eventually.

Check EOT and ECT after a 24 hour soak. If they're the same, its very likely your oil cooler is toast. You could try swapping those two sensors (they're the same) and see if there is a different in your 18 degree delta. Very unlikely, but if so, it could be a sensor issue.

My recommendation is run it like it is and don't worry about stud and HGs until you need to. Just don't run tunes or large injectors. I've driven with stiction for about 5 years. Its finally gotten bad enough to change some injectors. So, if its not bad, you can delay it quite some time.

What do you mean by soak? I have changed my sensors and put a new oil temp and new water temp sensors in. Still same deltas. I have flushed a coupled times but this time coolant looks mud brown.

As far as injectors I was really thinking 155/30 but the only reason I was thinking about injectors and studs was because going to be in there anyway.
