Was this a fire truck?
Let me know if something doesn't line up.
I note you say it's a '71. There may have been a delay in getting it on the road, and it may have been titled as a 1971 by the time it was ready. Not right, but not unusual to see.
And now it's white! Thank you 85e150! Not a fire truck. As it sits now it's a grain truck. It has 63,000 miles on it which is high for a farm truck so it probably did have a previous life. I haven't got the truck home yet. It's in a field with about 2-3' of snow on the ground so I'll have to wait a while before I can get it home. As soon as calving is over I'll ask the previous owner what the trucks history is. It was previously registered as a 1971. I thought the Tranny console showed a 6 speed but I could be wrong. Any idea what the tag (70 / 505) is below the data tag?
Thanks for the help! More info to come once Over Easy is home and I've had a chance to talk to the previous owner.

OK I misremembered on the transmissions. Some later transmissions are said to be 6 speeds, but Allison lists them as 4. Apparently, the MT-40 was a legit 6er. That's good, as four speeds is just not enough.
Reference info, about post 8 it gets into the 4 vs. 6 etc:
Got Over/Easy home now. Truck is in really good overall condition. The cab is a bear to lift up. Do the springs go bad in these trucks? And they couldn't find the keys!! Can I get keys cut from thw vin?
