I have an 03 e350 passenger van, it did not come with a hitch frame mount. I had to install it myself getting it from a different e-seriers van from the junkyard. I also did all the wiring myself adding a tekonsha brake module. I tow my travel trailer with this van on vacations with my wife.
The rear bumper was damaged when I bought the van and left it as is. Now I finally got the van looking real nice after restoring it. I personally really like the E-series step bumpers, my question is - will the step bumper be compatible with my van that has a non-step bumper?
My main concern is the bolt pattern and hitch. I do not want to tow using the bumper hitch. Will I still be able to use my frame mounted hitch?
There should be no difference in they way your bumper and an OEM Step bumper mounts. The only thing to watch out for is to make sure the step bumper doesn't have the hitch tube welded under the bottom. That may cause interference with your mounted hitch. you should look for something like this:

They all bolt right up the same 92-14 I believe. I've bought several aftermarket rear step bumpers and they fit great. Only thing is they only have two mounting bolts per side vs the OEM ones have 3 per side. I always degrease and undercoat the insides of them to help prevent rust. If you get chrome the chrome isn't as thick and can rust easy compared to the OEM ones.
