Piece inside the frame identification

It’s not the best picture I know but on the drivers side of the frame right infront of the shock and mount is a large hole. Looking inside there appears to be a piece of metal aside from the bolts running through it. Is this just frame support? It looks like it’s pretty rusty and starting to crumble from dirt buildup but the rest of the frame around it is good. What exactly is it and should I be concerned? The other side looks fine thankfully

It's a brace to keep the shock tower bolts tight. Without it the bolts would just crush the two sides of the frame together and never stay tight.

Is there a hole behind the shock tower mount then that allowed ford to put that there when installing the shock towers? Is it possible to buy a new one? Or should I just let it be

If the frame is ok around it I wouldn't worry about it.

Not a crack is it? Maybe it rubs off?

Thankfully no it’s not a crack. Just grime that got disturbed. The frame has rust holes but my local welding shops gonna go to town on it and fix it for me when I take the cab and bed off

This is the second post you've made about rust issues with this frame. The front section of frame is boxed and there are a few pieces of boxing and bracing inside it that will trap moisture/dirt/salt/etc. My '79 plow truck was rotted from the inside and snapped the frame, but it wasn't too bad on the outside. When I finally parted it out i cut the front frame apart and could crush all those internal braces and boxed sections by hand they were so rotted.

I said it in the other post, but you need to do a thorough inspection of this frame. IMO, just from the pics I've seen, you're gonna be time and money ahead by finding a good frame, even if you need to get one shipped in. It might be more expensive up front, but it will also make the swap multiple times easier when you can unbolt a part, clean/restore it and just bolt it back on a second frame. The time saved having to disassemble a whole truck, clean/restore/catalog/store all the parts, have the frame repaired/restored and then re-assemble it all would be well worth it, IMO
