So how much frame am I missing? (Longish)

Hi,

Got the bed off my '55 today to start getting the frame cleaned up. Here's what I saw at the end of the frame:

Looks like the end of my frame has been rusted out/hacked off past the rear spring mount. Looks like a home made angle iron crossmember has been welded in as well.

Questions/Comments:

1) How big a deal is this? Should I be looking for another frame? The rest of the frame seems pretty solid up to that point. What should my frame look like from the spring mount back? Anyone have a pic to share?

2) Another frame wouldn't be a huge deal at this point if I can find one. The one I currently have has no title and woud probably cost $200-300 to get one from Broadway title so if I can get a parts truck with a title reasonably I'm probably ahead of the game in the long run.

I'm at a huge crossroads in this project right now. My options as I see them are:

1) No big deal, just build the truck. Wasn't going to be a show queen anyways.
2) Get another truck and do the old 2 to make 1.
3) Part this POS out and start fresh with a better starting point.

Looking for feedback from the experts. Right now I'm stalled out and could use any advice and/or pep talks you feel like giving.

Hi

It looks like the top of the frame is the correct length.

From the last rivet on the spring mounting bracket to the end of my frame (1956) it is 6 3/4.

I would just fix that small section of the frame.

Here's a pic of my 55 frame. Doesn't appear that you are missing much. I would repair it either yourself or have a pro do it.

Wow, great responses so far! Fred, that pic goes a loooong way towards making me feel better about this bump in the road. It does look like I'm not really missing much of the frame at all. Well, maybe that's one hurdle covered today.
