Do the aluminum bodies have a protective coating on them, other than the paint on the exterior ?
I've seen factory Alcoa wheels destroyed by corrosion.
Primer is electro-coated on them, inside and out.
Better corrosion control than those old trucks ever were.
Rust, Natures paint system. Was under my 07 RAV 4, the drive shaft was rusted, no paint. What had been painted, was no more. What was aluminum, still aluminum but with a grey coating. Considering the frames are painted and a few years later are rust, why worry about casting being painted, they get a patina and that's it, the frame after the paint is compromised, gets far worse over time. Want it to look like new for a long time? Get a good coat of Wool Wax on it, the only area that will rust is the pumpkin on the rear ale after the WW is burned off.
Well you are right it's no problem, I'd have been fine leaving it. But I had wanted to get up under there anyway. Maybe it's the truck market encouraging the closer attention.

You make an excellent point. With the prices of trucks now, even the slightest detail can set a person off. Things we never even considered years back can play a part in what we buy. Go back 10-15 years ago, one didn't really see complaints about the driveshaft yoke, or the axle being a bit rusted, no one actually cared that much since the rust was overlooked as being normal on those parts, but today with the trucks costing 3 times what they did back then, every little part gets scrutinized and questioned.
