Just a quick question that I can't get a yes or no answer to. Going to look at a '89 E350 Ford C Class motorhome. Has a 460 engine but seller is not sure if fuel injected or not. Anybody know for certain yes it is or no it isn't? I Know an '89 F350 was but motorhomes tend to run a few years behind general automotive.
Pull the dog house and look at it. It'll be obvious if it's carbureted or injected. If unsure take a pic of the top of the engine and post it, then someone will be able to tell you.
I'm aware of the difference when looking at them. This motorhome is a 2 hour drive away and I was just wanting to know what it was before I headed out. And before you ask the owner is almost as far away from it as I am and can not take a picture of it
Just did some googling and the first year for 460 EFI was 1988 -- so kind of unlikely that this one is. Maybe the seller could take a pic with the hood up --
I've never seen an injected 460, but I would think that it would be fairly obvious.
FWIW, I had an older RV with a 460 with the original electronic system -- whatever they called the one before the EECIV. Ran pretty decent and always started well. Never used it when it was cold. Did have an interesting twist -- oil pressure was somehow wired into whatever passed for a computer -- if no oil pressure, it would start and immediately quit. Never ran it without oil, but I was checking something out and the wire became disconnected -- took me a little while to figure that out.
