Shudder in Front End
It is my understanding that this Explorer is full-time AWD. When starting from a dead stop and turning in either direction, I hear a noise that sounds like a clutch chattering (and I can feel a shuddering through the steering). The noise also occurs sometimes when cruising and traveling in a straight direction. And the problem is intermittent - it doesn't always happen.
Any suggestions as to what I should be checking/looking for?

Check to make sure all 4 tires are all the same size and have the same amount of tread on them, it's a known issue when tires are mixed eg: new on one axle, old but still good on the other or mixed old/new on either axle to create an imbalance so to speak within the system that causes intermittent false ABS activation.
The only cure we found and were directed to perform by Ford's technical hotline is to replace all 4 tires at the same time (Every time).
