Was offered a system at a great price (used) but will it work? It is off a 2001 super crew with 5.4 and I have a 350 with 6.8, looked at the pics of the two different setups side by side and they look the same but are they? Will this work on my truck? Also looking into exhaust does anyone know what size muffler I need? In/out diameter's?
I would stick with a system for your V10. I put a MAC cold air intake on my 2004 and noticed the difference right away. More HP and TQ when towing my 6800 lb boat. When not towing, my MPG went up! I also kept the stock exhaust and added a MagnaFlow 2.5" to 3.5" muffler. The MAC cost around $150 and in my opinion is worth the price. The MagnaFlow was $90.
I am still looking to up my HP and TQ with a chip, but so far, nobody makes it for the 2004.
5thwheeler, I've been looking for a 20" lift and cheap horsepower, but I havn't found ether one.
I think what williammitsu was trying to say is that you won't find a cheap way to make much of an improvment on the V10.
There are many improvements but none of the cheep ones do much unless you put them all together and then it's not cheep.
WAHA,, Just curious, so the Mac cold air intake, did seem to make a difference ??,,How did it fit the 04' V-10,,?? and 2 more question,,How does the Magnaflow muffler sound and where did you get these goodies for your truck ??
I have the 04' V-10 and I am very interested in these upgrades, please let me know,,,thanks,,,,,,,,,Mark
Only difference I can find from the 2003 to 2004 under the hood is the vac lines are vertical on the 2004 rather than horizontal on the air intake housing. You only need to modify the 5/8" hose if you go with the MAC kit. Install was easy and looks good under the hood!
The MAC got rid of the shudder you can feel when you put your foot into it. I can feel the difference towing and really feel it unloaded. They advertise 22hp out the tires, but not sure how they got that.
The MagnaFlow is the 2.5" connected to the stock exhaust with a 3.5" chrome tip. Sounds great at idle and rpms. I mainly got it to get rid of that huge OEM muffler that had heat warping at only 9000 miles. All the other V8 motors I have always put dual exhaust, but the V10 will never sound the same.
Air intake was online and the muffler at a local shop.
Look around for the best price online. If you go with the MAC it is part #3960. I went with it because it was the only FIPK available for the 2004 V10. It will take 100 or so miles for the mass air sensor to adjust to the new intake. My MPG went up, but it is hard to keep my foot out of it the way is sounds!
Let me know how yours turns out and get in touch with me if I can be of any help. I can also send some pics of the system installed to see if you like it.
