Got a 1997 F350 single rear wheel 2wd. Recently replaced tires, rotors, wheel bearings, shocks, and completely new tie rods and ball joints. Got the thing aligned and balanced plenty of times recently but can't get it to stop shaking and vibrating when above 70mph.
Coasting from 80 down to 70 shakes a ton and feels like the front wheels are almost wobbling. No steering wheel shake but the i know the steering box could be better. Already tightened the little adjuster nut which helped.
Really want to be able to take it screaming down the highway but am worried too much of that vibration will break something else
You took care of the basics. I feel like you shoulf check drive shaft balance but at such high speeds im doubtful. You would prob. Feel vibration at lower speeds as well.
auto or stick? auto flex plate loose or cracked? if stick do you have DMF?
sometime the vibes might feel like tires but the cab can transmit vibes
when was last time you checked carrier bearing and u joints? need to take off and move em by hand
slip yoke on drive shaft been re lubed?
It's an automatic, not sure about driveshaft balance. U joints aren't new but are in good condition. Carrier bearing looks good as well. Haven't lubricated slip yoke either. Rides at stock height, but the vibration feels like its more steer-wheel centralized. Almost feels like one of the front tires is wobbling but I know they should be spinning straight and true
Differential is a 4.10 and recently been opened and cleaned and re-lubed as well
I had similar vibrations when switching lanes or turning at speed. I looked underneath and found that my I beam to chassis mount bolt was loose. There was 2 bolts on each side and one was loose and threads were stripped from the movement/play. Had to pull the bolt and install a new one. The vibration was on one side too. Intermittent bouncing/vibration at higher speed. Since then I have rebuilt the front end, ball joints, tie rods, I beam bushings (pain to get to), all bushings including camber and sway bar and new shocks. Only thing left is steering box and new springs which I should of done while apart. Also new u-joints, carrier and extension housing bushings.
