Question: What is your insurance deductible? I have, in my experience, found that all the anti-theft devices do is aggravate. So, do I want a large single aggravation event or constantly have to fiddle with something every time I want to move the vehicle? Over the last 30 years, I have not had my cars stolen. Am I going to install kill switches in all my cars? Probably not. If it is stolen, I drive the other ones and let the insurance companies deal with it. I paid so THEY worry and I sleep in peace. If I had to worry, I would save the money for the comprehensive part of the insurance and worry.
The remote start is actually a big convenience for anyone living in cold areas. What if the kill switch is just not allowing to put in gear? It would probably be even more puzzling for a thief…
. I've found in my many years here that all too often the good guys lose. I feel many times the loss is caused by all the fancy electronic gadgets on todays vehicles witrhout adding more!!!!
Don't you have to press the brake pedal to allow the push button start to function? I wonder if the brake switch circuit might be easier to access/less of an issue to interrupt than the push to start button?
Nope. Press the Start button and hold it for about 3 seconds and the truck will start without touching the brake pedal. I do this every time I change the oil or the fuel filters - I don't have to climb inside to start it. Just press and hold the Start button.

I don't want to lose all the nifty gadgets. Love them. The theft prevention stuff, go ask your insurance agent to give you a discount. If they won't, it shows me how much confidence they place in it.

As they have been decontenting cars/trucks I have really learned to appreciate my late 2010s vehicles. Not to mention tools in my trucks and headaches dealing with a theft.
Now that the border is closed off there is probably less demand for super duties but I still pull my kill switch at night.

I know what you mean, but in anyone so much as puts a hand thru an open window without even touching anything in my antique 2020 F-250, the alarm goes off!!!

Don't know. Old stuff never appeals to me. I keep old stuff around only because it isn't economically justified to replace. For example, if I can afford to and can get enough use out of it, I'm going to replace it with a newer one. This is something I don't appreciate. Hearing the words "OBSOLETE" or "NLA".
I get that. Being on the receiving end of theft SUCKS. No question about it. I have had my truck broken into twice. Way I see it, with the electronics we have, there are 2 kinds of thieves. Those that smash the window and grab stuff and the pro thieves. We don't have the joyriding teenagers anymore that will hotwire your car. Think about it this way. The insurance company doesn't want a loss so if they can give you a few bucks to prevent a 100K loss by having you install an expensive gizmo, why wouldn't they? They have actuaries that will tell them it will save them a huge payout if it did work statistically. You'd pay for it and they toss you a discount kinda like an a discount for an alarm system that hooks up to notify cops. I'm going to trust their judgement more than the "common sense" approach I can come up with.

But what would the game plan be if it tripped? When I was younger, I'd say go out with a pistol or shotgun. That was a long time ago. Today, you don't know if he is alone or has a couple other guys as backup. You don't know if they are armed. I'd just call the cops and let them deal with it. I am pretty sure that YOU are responsible for every bullet out of YOUR gun. Even if it is justifiable, you are going to be in legal fees for a lot. I don't even bother listening for it at night. If it is broke into or stolen, I just do what I did. Call cops in the morning, file paperwork in the afternoon and go shopping for replacements in the evening.
