Remote Start & Push button start Issues

Hi there,

Have any of you experienced any issues with your remote and push button start? Mine started with the remote start but now its giving me problems during regular start ups. The truck is 2017 diesel, here is what happened today:

Went to remote start the truck in the usual way Click the lock, double click the 2X button
Truck makes a popping sound from under the hood but doesn't start
Get in the truck depress the brake, push the button truck tells me to apply the brake to start the truck
Apply the brake again and go through the motions again, nothing
Try putting the fob in the spot for programing the keys and starting the truck, nothing
Leave and come back in a couple minutes truck starts

It is starting to happen on just regular starts now; I push the button says to apply the brake do so and push the button, truck doesn't start. I am going to call the dealer in the morning but just wondering if any here has experienced anything like this.

Nothing like this here. How are the batteries?

Batteries seem to be fine, a bit of corrosion on the terminals. It does start strong … when it starts, it just is kind of hit and miss lately. The remote start sound is strange like I said kind of a popping noise, the regular start issues I thought where just in my head until today.

Where do you live? Cold weather this week has my remote start wait until the glow plugs are ready...4-5 seconds

Presumably it’s under warranty still, so it may be wise to have the dealer fix it/mess with it. If you can, take a long video of the situation first, because it won’t have any problems when you get it to the dealer......

I am BC it hasn't been really cold yet, no frost in the mornings. I am thinking the batteries might not be 100 percent. I made an appointment and I have a video so I will get it in tomorrow and at least have them take a look at the batteries.

When you get in to manually start it, is the brake pedal already hard or are you able to depress it?

Have you checked or replace the batteries in the actual key fob?

My remote start on the FOB wouldn't work today, but possibly somehow linked to the fact that my tailgate is currently off (and camera/etc harness is disconnected).

I haven't but I haven't gotten a message that it is low and it isn't that it doesn't react to the fob. After locking the vehicle when the auto start try's to engage it makes a strong sort of pneumatic popping sound like air pressure escaping from a hose is the best way I can describe.

I am able to depress it. The sequence goes, I get in put my foot on the brake and when I push the button nothing happens other than the memory for the seat and steering wheel kick in then the screen directs me to depress the brake to start the car, I release the brake, re-apply the brake and then push the be button and at this point it can go either way, it either just clicks with no response or it starts. It goes in tomorrow but they are backed up for a week so they are just going to check the batteries, and honestly it seems to have plenty of battery.

Sure it’s not an electrical popping sound DRKBC? I had to have my battery tie downs, rods, nuts replaced, and all terminals cleaned. It was super bad corroded. Try cleaning every battery post and applying some dielectric grease inside the terminals and all over to stop the corrosion. I would also check the starter cable end to end and the relay wires on the starter. To me it sounds like a bad relay or a bad connection is giving you intermittent issues. If it’s still in warranty I would push the dealer a bit harder to get it in and look at it. Fort Motors right?

It could very well be, thanks for the tips. I am going to drop it off at the dealer tomorrow and hopefully they will dig into it a little more seriously. No :-) a little more south than that, I am in the Okanagan.

Well, the dealer did nothing. They had it for the day and said they couldn't replicate therefore it must be fine … didn't clean up the battery or check any of the connections. I asked the rep what if I am 100 km's out and it goes and I have to get towed back in? He replied "unfortunately sometimes that's the best because then we can test it to find out what failed" mechanics seem to be few and far between these days. There is another dealer in town that I have heard good things about I am going to give them a try.

Just a quick follow up. I tried a different dealer who immediately diagnosed the issue as a starter. New part goes in tomorrow.
Funny how with some dealerships you just feel like your pushing sand uphill and others its just easy. Hopefully this is resolved, but regardless, at least they are trying to solve the problem.

Cool. Let us know if the replacement starter solves your issue.
