2001 XL 2WD with 4.2/V6 with auto XMSN. XL base trim with no tilt steering wheel. 136K miles.
Just lately, the turn signal stopped working when put to right turn position. Sometimes a buzzing noise happens with no dash flash indicator. Sometimes no buzz or flash indicator. Sometimes after a normal left turn signal/auto shut-off sequence the right turn works normal. Hazard flasher works.
You tube shows a few possible things; signal relay, multi-function switch/lever assembly, and loose wires to same.
I'm hoping somebody had this same issue and might save me some trouble shooting time before I dig into the dash & steering column covers.
Thanks for any help.
Replaced flasher (blue) relay.
No change.
I'll replace the multi-function/turn lever assembly as I see no loose damaged wiring.
Officially throwing parts now...
Bummer
The buzz is coming from the flasher relay right?
You unplug the flasher relay, and the buzz quits right?
The TS switch sometimes gets unplugged with repeated use of the column tilt
The grounds in the truck are okay?
I would check a few just for GPs Like the ones above the drivers feet, if any, and the ones behind the left kick panel;
..the turn signal stopped working when put to right turn position...Sometimes a buzzing noise happens with no dash flash indicator...Hazard flasher works.
Replace the relay for the flasher, test the signals before reassembling. Still not working replace MFS, retest.
OK, back at home again, and part was waiting on me.
Replaced the multi-function switch/arm and all is working perfectly again.
Answers to questions;
-The intermittent buzzing noise had quit by the time I got the panels off to start work. (somewhere inside the dash area was all I could tell)
-Why is the one relay blue? You'll have to ask Ford. Maybe it helped the worker during assembly at the factory. (and now I have an extra one) OR, because AA goes on a blue background, on a red square, Airborne!!
-As to wear and tear from tilt steering... this has a fixed steering column. Which made it a tiny bit more fiddly getting panels off, but not too bad.
