My son has a 96 F250 7.3 that he does not drive very often, they normally drive her 4runner. Well, he wrecked the runner so he charged the batteries in the Ford and had a bit of a time getting it started. Now his overdrive light is flashing and he says it is making hard shifts. I am trying to look up some things for him on this. He is young, married, 18 month old, another due in March, and a new job/career. Would the low battery charge cause this? I have read on here that bad alternator can cause all sorts of havoc, will low batteries do the same? Also read that most code readers will not get the codes (the check engine light is not on). A lot of information about VSS issues (800-1600 ohms at the sensor, unplugged I assume, is what I have read). I also saw a youtube video about bad wiring at the engine fan causing the flashing OD light??
Any input is much appreciated.
BTW it is almost time to get back to my 80 F350 build. Aaaahhhhh.
Get Forscan at www.forscan.org. Their page shows which OBDII adapter that you need. I bought mine from Amazon for about $30. WIth Forscan you can read all of the codes and we can help fix this. It could be something really inexpensive.
He removed fuses and replaced, not sure if he just cleaned them or replaced with new, but the flashing light is gone and it drives like it should. I will loan him my scanner to see if it will pick up trans codes. Seems to be an internet hit or miss on whether or not it works for trans codes, Actron CP9660. The insurance company totalled their 4Runner so he needs to be able to drive this to the bus for work. Thanks for the input.
