I just bought this 1986 F-150 4x4 and every time I turn on my head lights my dash light are dim and my head lights are dim also. Every time I hit a bump in the road my lights work for a second and my dash lights get briter. Where should I start looking for the short or whatever please help.
Articwolf, you probably have a poor ground somewhere. If you have a small wire coming off the negative battery cable and attached to the radiator support, check it first. Remove it from the radiator support, then clean and tighten the connection.
If that dosen't help, then trace down the ground wire(s) running from the headlights. They should be grounded to the body somewhere near the headlights themselves.
If only one headlight dims, then suspect a bad bulb connector.
It could also be a faulty headlight switch, but I would check for a bad ground first.......
