Just replace the alternator about 2 weeks ago with a BRAND NEW one from O'Reillys and noticed last night while sitting at a traffic light that my dash lights, head lights and tail lights were slightly dimming in a strobe like manner. Takes about a minute after starting up but the strobing effect starts every time after a minute or two. Bad Alternator?
Sounds like a bad rectifier in the alternator to me. Did you have your batteries load tested separately also?
Nope, did not have the batteries load tested as they are only a year and a half old and very stout when cranking. Batteries are diehard platinums which are made by odessey and are some of the best batteries I've ever owned. Can go by Sears and have them tested, but I feel real good about them.

The above is your problem. The rectifier is part of/attached to your new alternator. You've got nice batteries and a questionalble alt. If were you I would return that alt. and get a DCPower alternator. I, and a lot of us have them and love them. Mine is a 185amp model.
Takes about 4 days to get the DC power unit. Worried about leaving a defective one on that long and it causing other electronic components to fail, expensive ones like the FICM. I have good voltage and the batteries crank the hell out of the truck. Just worried that the strobing might have the same effect as power surging and damage electronic components. Do you think it would be OK to drive until the DC Power unit comes in?

Wish you were closer Fandini as you could use my old one. I took it off because I wanted the upgrade. It worked fine and I have it all sealed and wraped up in my tuck incase I have a failure hunting or somewhere on the road.
